The plan for Thursday was to run Kane Creek Canyon. We all met at McDonalds and some grabbed a bite to eat. We left McDonalds sometime shortly before 10 a.m. and headed south along the Colorado River. Soon we arrived at the trailhead and aired down. That’s when our first issue came up. Stan’s ZJ wouldn’t start: dead battery. After a quick jump start, we were on our way.
It wasn’t but another half a mile, when a rear shock on Stan’s ZJ broke. This had happened before, so he had brought along his old shocks and we quickly replaced it. Back on the trail again, we made it a little further when the XJ belonging to Leona was not going into 4-low. This was also an easy fix by adjusting the linkage and we were on our way once again.
As we drove up the canyon there were many water crossings but not many obstacles. It was as we climbed out of the canyon where the challenge began. Still most of our group made quick work of the rocks. We finished this scenic trail without issue, albeit late. The late trail rides became a theme for the remainder of the trip. Most of us decided to stop in at the Moab Brewery for dinner. We all left full and happy.
