Charlie’s Blazer had just about outlived it’s usefulness so, when we found him a great deal on a used Cherokee, he jumped on it. Just after he made the purchase he had to go to Houston for a week for his Grandmother’s funeral so when he got back he was really itching to get the wheels of his “new” rig dirty.
We rendezvoused at McDonalds in Boulder and headed up to Switzerland Trail. Steve has done quite a bit of exploring on the side roads in this area so he directed along one of them to some interesting mine ruins and an old, stone cabin he had found. He told us that when he found them he had been alone and so hadn’t taken the steep, loose hill climb out the other side. We decided to try it.
The climb was slightly challenging for the stock rigs but everyone made it up unassisted. We continued to climb fairly steeply as the trail wove tightly in and out of the trees. Charlie was quite pleased with the performance of the Cherokee.
After returning to the main Switzerland Trail we took a little time to play on our favorite hill. After that we headed on down to Sunset and went out Four Mile Canyon through Wallstreet and Salina. It was a very successful test run for Charlie’s “new” Jeep.
