Trip Report:

Bill Moore Lake June 30, 2007

by Bill Andrews

We had a very good time on our Armed Forces Tribute trip. It was a great turn-out with 19 rigs there, just a couple shy of our all-time record. To make things more manageable we split into 3 groups. Jim and his friends headed out in one group, those wanting more of a challenge headed up Red Elephant Hill in another group and those wanting a more relaxing drive took the traditional Bill Moore Lake route in the final group. Jim's group had 5 rigs, the challenge group had 8 rigs and the relaxed group had 6.

Jim's group headed up to the lake and back pretty much on their own. The other two groups reconnected in the meadow above Mill Creek for lunch and our tribute ceremony then headed up to the lake together. Most of the trail was clear, dry and dusty with the usual steep, loose climbs. We did find a little snow and mud just before the lake, But we all make it to the lake no problem.

After spending a little time at the lake we headed down. Some went on home as it was getting late but a good group of us headed to Beau Jo's. We found the Beau Jo's in Idaho Springs booked solid for the evening so we headed to the one in Arvada instead for some good food a fellowship
